What is NLP? | Neuro Languishing Programming
NLP (Neuro Linguisting Programming) has often been described as the study of human excellence.
NLP was originally founded by Richard Bandler and John Grinder.
They set out to model the language, physiology and mental processes of extremely successful therapists, Virginia Satir, who was involved in family therapy, Fritz Perls a Gestalt therapist and Milton Erickson, who is acknowledge as one of the world’s best psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, together with others who were also extremely successful in their chosen fields.
The essence of NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is about the study of what is successful when it comes to your thought processes, language and behaviour.
It is a way of determining your patterns of behaviour and then modifying them into models of excellence which enable you to consistently achieve successful results that you have defined.
NLP is applicable in both personal success and business success
Bandler and Grindler studied these people and determined patterns they used, which provided consistently outstanding results. These patterns became known as models of excellence and are the basis upon which NLP rests.
NLP (neuro linguistic programming) comprises three parts.
Neuro – refers to the neurological process of seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting. These are our primary perceptions of experience.
Linguistic – is how we use language to interpret, represent and arrange our experience and communication with others.
Programming – these are the strategies and techniques we use to organise these processes and produce results.
Richard Bandler one of the co-creators of NLP once described NLP as ‘An attitude and methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques’.
NLP is renowned achieving successful results in the following areas:
Phobias and fears, such as fear of heights, fear of public speaking
Depression, anxiety, and mood swings
Self-esteem and increasing self confidence
Enhancing relationships through improved communications
General increased mental performance.
